1. 发现事实
一、什么是事实
事实就是某些称为细节的东西，是信息中的细小部分。事实存在于真实故事里——如报纸上报道的那些故事，也存在于传说及人们编撰的故事里。
二、怎样发现事实
在阅读中，你可以通过设问来寻找事实。问who,其答案是有关人的事实;问what, 其答案就是关于事物/事件的事实;问where, 其答案就是关于地点的事实;问when,其答案就是关于时间的事实;问how many或how much,其答案就是关于数目或数量的事实。
三、选材特点
1.题材广泛,内容丰富。所选语篇的主题涵盖了《普通高中英语课程标准（2017年版）》中的三大主题语境和十个主题群。
2.材料真实，语言地道。本阅读材料都是来自英语国家的书、报、杂志。在编辑过程中，为保持阅读材料的语言风格及真实性，未对正文内容作任何改动。
四、设题特点
每篇短文后都有10个问题，它们都是关于事实的。也许你已经知道相关的事实，但你需要用故事里的事实来回答问题。
五、阅读提示
1.请你带着寻找事实的意图去阅读故事。注意有关人、动物和事物的名称，寻找地点、日期和时间。
2.仔细阅读每一个问题，然后在故事里寻找与问题中的某些单词相同的句子。
3.请同学们根据自己的阅读水平，每篇短文设定一定的时间进行限时训练，这样才有利于更高效地提高单位时间内的阅读能力。
4.建议同学们做完每篇短文后，自己整理一下语言知识；同时把错题归类整理，不定期进行思考总结。

Romana Banuelos was born in Arizona.As a young girl,she moved with her family to Mexico. Romana did well in school. She liked math. She hoped one day to find a job that would lether use her math skills.
When Romana was 24,she took a big chance. She put money Into a business. It was a tortilla stand in Los Angeles. Over time the business grew. It became $5million food company!
Romana was now rich. But she didn't stop there Son she Started a new bank. At the time it was the only United States bank run by Mexican Americans. Later she also formed a special fund. It gave Mexican Americans money to go to college.
Romana worked hard to help people. Her work made her Well known. soon she had a new job President Nixon asked her to be treasurer of the United States. She held the job for three years. She was the first Mexican American woman to hold this post.
In her job Romana wrote and signed checks from the government. Her name was stamped on all paper bills. Part of her job Was to make sure all worn-out bills were destroyed.
Romana's work inspired many people. She was a role model to young Hispanics. Young women admired Romana, too.She became a hero to all America.
